How to choose from the best Ericeira surf camps

Budget

One of the most important components of choosing a surf camp in Ericeira is making sure it’s actually within your budget. The surf camps on this list vary from budget-friendly surf camps where you sleep in the dorms, all the way to luxury ocean view suites.

The good news is, there is something for every budget when it comes to choosing a surf camp in Ericeira. For each of these surf camps, I’ve made sure to note the price point.

Wondering how much things cost when traveling in Portugal? Here’s an up-to-date budget breakdown of how much a trip to Portugal costs.

Skill Level

Taking your skill level into account is another huge factor to consider when it comes to choosing the right surf camp. If you’re a beginner surfer, you can pretty much have a blast at any of these surf camps. However, if you’re an intermediate or advanced surfer, you’ll need to be a bit more selective- not all surf camps cater to intermediates, and even less cater to advanced surfers.

With that said, there are surf camps on this list that cater to all levels.

Time of year

While the time of year doesn’t necessarily affect which surf camp in Ericeira you choose, it’s still super important to consider in general when planning your trip.

The surf in Ericeira can get quite large and heavy, so if you’re a beginner, it’s probably best to come in the summer, or early fall.

If you’re looking to surf some fun, medium sized waves, I recommend coming in the fall. For the big stuff, come to an Ericeira surf camp during the winter.

Additionally, the time of year you come to Portugal really impacts how much things cost. Pretty much everything in Portugal is broken up seasonally- rental cars, campervans, hotels, and surf camps are all priced differently depending on what time of year you come.

Summer is the peak high season, when everything is most expensive. Fall is the next most expensive, right behind summer. Winter is the cheapest time to come, and spring is the second cheapest.

I took my Portugal surf trip in the fall, and absolutely LOVED it. It wasn’t too crowded, and the water and air were both fairly warm.

Here’s a good guide to the surf seasons at one of the more popular breaks in Ericeira.

All-inclusive or no

Another important factor to consider when choosing which surf camp to go to in Ericeira is whether or not it’s all-inclusive, and whether or not you want to go to an all-inclusive surf camp.

All of these surf camps include accommodations and surf lessons. However, some also include all your meals too.

An all-inclusive surf camp is nice if you don’t want to give food any thought, and just focus on surfing and having a good time.

However, if you are trying to save money, you can opt for a surf camp with a communal kitchen. Or, if you love going out to restaurants, you can opt for a surf camp that isn’t all-inclusive so you can go and explore the Portuguese cuisine on your own.
